Joe was born September 20, 1945 in Bluefield, WV. to Joseph H. Bowen, Jr. and Margaret Josephine Bowen. Joe graduated from Virginia Episcopal Prep School in 1963 before graduating Lehigh University in 1967 with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
Joe Married Barbara Holnagel on July 12, 1969 in Waukesha, WI where they raised 4 children. In 1980, Joe moved his family to Westminster, CO.
Joe was a distinguished Engineer and Businessman for many years. He held various positions with Rexnord Corp. and ChemRex Inc., from 1967-1979. In 1979, he was named Plant Manager in Commerce City, CO., a position he held until 1993. During this time Joe served two years on the National Board of Directors for The Society of Plastics, Inc. Until his retirement in 2008, Joe held various positions within the Manufacturing and Construction Industries.
Joe dearly loved his four daughters. He is survived by Kirsten Rhodes and husband Chris of Redwood City, CA., Erika Klein and husband Gregg of Westminster, CO., Heidi Hohn and husband Travis of Broomfield, CO., and Laura Bowen of Thornton, CO. Joe also had four grandchildren that he loved very deeply, Lauren Klein, Garrett Klein, Jackson Rhodes, and Charlie Hohn. Joe was quick to boast of his pride for all of his daughters and grandchildren and their respective accomplishments.
Joe is also survived by three siblings; Elizabeth Bowen of Sarasota FL., Marjorie Bowen Perez of Ocala, FL., and Henry Bowen and wife Janice of Charleston, WV., along with his nieces and nephews. Joe's relationship with his siblings and their families had become very important to him in recent years and he very much enjoyed their company.
Joe was an avid hunter, dedicated member of Ducks Unlimited, proud NRA member, and active free Mason.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at Olinger Highland Chapel at 10201 Grant St. Thornton, CO., at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016.
