Dorothy J. Roy, 87, formerly of Cedar Rapids , Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12th 2013 at her home, Johnson Center., Centennial, Colorado. Born August of 1925, she is predeceased by her parents, Jerry Jerman and Jennie Novak, and her late husband ,John T. Roy, sister Helen Ramirez, and brother Jerry Jerman Jr. and grand nephew Damon Towne.
Dorothy was a factory worker in the food industry in Cedar Rapids before retiring and moving to Colorado with her husband & Jack, to be close to her mother, brother and sister. In her retirement years she was active in Epislon Sigma Alpha (ESA), a philanthropic organization in which she served as State President, International Chaplin, and named ESA Woman of the Year for the state of Colorado. She also was an active contributing member of Western Fraternal Organization, and active in her church, Holy Cross in Thornton, Colorado.
Survivors include her sister, Maryanne Martin (Curtis) of Centennial , Colorado and five nieces and four nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation is Sunday May 19th from 2pm to 5pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 N. Grant St, Thornton, Colorado, with Rosary at 5pm, same location.
Funeral Mass is Monday, May 20th at 10am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 9371 Wigham Street, Thornton, Colorado..
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to True Impact Ministries, Project Adopt A Village, in care of Reverand Wanjiru Mukunga, 9005 E. Lehigh Ave, #40, Denver, CO, 80237. Dorothy was committed to this project which will build wells and pipeline to bring water into the very poor village of Gitombo, Kenya, Africa.
