Billy Don Chambers, 83, was born to Emma and Daniel Chambers in Valliant, Oklahoma on July 7, 1938. He was the fifth of twelve born to the family. The Chambers family moved to Thornton, Colorado when he was 13 years old, and made Colorado their permanent home. While in high school, Billy began working at Karl’s Farm Dairy to help his parents support his younger siblings. He was also known as the disciplinarian to his younger siblings. Although he was the disciplinarian, he was always very loving and supportive to all his family.
Billy Chambers graduated from Merritt Hutton High School in 1958, and upon graduation Billy continued to work at Karl’s Farm Dairy and also began working at Western Airlines. Billy worked for Western Airlines, who was later bought by Delta Airlines, and ultimately retired from Delta after more than 25 years of service in 1995. After retiring from Delta Airlines, Billy opened B&O Janitorial Services where he worked part-time until he officially retired in 2009.
Billy Chambers began dating his wife, Olivia, in 1958, and married her on October 8, 1966. Billy and Olivia remained married and lifelong partners until his death on July 29, 2021 (54 years of marriage). Billy and Olivia were blessed with one daughter, Maria. Billy was a loving and caring father. His daughter was the light of his life. Later, his two grandchildren, Daniel Jr. and Emily, were a source of joy and pride in his life.
A man of deep, abiding faith, Billy loved studying the word of God. He was very involved as a Deacon at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and The Rock Church of Denver later known as Higher Anointing Christian Center. He loved helping out around the church and with the homeless ministry. He worked hard, loved harder, and as a deacon Billy prayed the hardest.
Billy enjoyed spending time with his family, studying the Bible, yardwork, home improvements, and watching his grandkids play sports. Billy excelled in baseball and basketball when he was younger and picked up golf in retirement. Billy Chambers was a great man, who was loved, missed, and will always be cherished by his family and grandchildren who knew him as “Papa”.
He is survived by his wife, Olivia Chambers of Denver, Colorado; his only child, Maria Fortune, his son-in-law, Daniel Fortune, and his two grandchildren, Daniel Jr. and Emily of Birmingham, Alabama; his five sisters, Imogene Tassian of Denver, Colorado, Cora Talbert of Greeley, Colorado, Gwen Chambers of Denver, Colorado, Dian Jackson of Denver, Colorado and Julia Minter of Denver, Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews; and, his dog, Rumby. Billy Don Chambers was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Archie, and father, Daniel Chambers; his four brothers, Cleo, Clifford, Julius, and Kenneth; two of his seven sisters, Laura and Bertha; and, his dog, Dell.
