Alvin Gerald Schaefer of Arvada, Colorado passed away on Wednesday December 11th, 2019 after reaching the age of 76 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully in his home in with his Beloved wife Phyllis and children by his side.
Alvin was born on November 24th 1943 in Ft Collins, Colorado to Ruby and Alvin Harold Schaefer. As a boy he lived mostly on a farm with his Uncle Ray and his family or with his Grandparents.
As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself despite enduring Polio as a child. He worked at the railroad, joined the Sheetmetal Workers union, went through an apprenticeship, and worked for several companies throughout the years as a journeyman sheet metal worker.
In 1962, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Byers. They lived together and were inseparable for over 55 years. Alvin and Phyllis had 3 children Leanne Livingston, Mike and Steve Schaefer.
Alvin loved classic country music especially “ole Hank” Hank Williams Senior. Frequently Alvin could be found working in his woodshop, garage, or on one of the many home improvement projects in which he was so talented, and you could count on hearing “ole Hank” playing nearby.
Alvin loved camping and fishing with his friends and family and couldn’t be beaten at any outdoor game like washers or horseshoes. Traveling in their motorhome was Alvin’s pastime in retirement and he loved “getting warm” in Death Valley and Quartzite, AZ when the winter cold finally proved too much to take.
He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend, and a man who would give his shirt for his friends and especially his family.
Alvin was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many.
Alvin is survived by loving wife, Phyllis Schaefer Arvada Colorado; children, Leanne Livingston of Pine, Colorado; Michael Schaefer of Solon, Ohio; Stephen Schaefer of Thornton, Co; and grandchildren Aaron Livingston, Niccolette Schaunaman, Lindsie Livingston, and Sydney Schaefer.
