1912 to 2011
Peacefully, on Monday January 24, surrounded by her loving family, Sheila joined her beloved Paddy and children Dorcas and Fergus.
She grew up in Athy, Co. Wicklow, the oldest of 3 and moved to Dublin in 1937 when she married Paddy. In Clontarf, the raised 8 children and then immigrated to Canada in 1957.
Her family will greatly miss their wonderful Mom, Nana and Great Nana. She will be lovingly remembered by Dorcas (2009) sons Paul (Fiona) and David (Marilyn) and 4 granddaughters. Nuala (Wally 1985) and children Donna (Doug) and Tony (Vicki) and 3 granddaughters. Kieran Jeanne) and family Mike (Marnie), Rob (Allison), Sue (Dan) and Joanne (Rock) and 7 grandchildren. Sister Ann Delaney C.S.J (Toronto), Fergus (Lyn) and children Jennifer, Justine (Leo) and Bryan (Toosje) and 5 grandchildren. Raydeen, children Tracey (Jon) and Kevin (Alin) and 2 grandchildren. Sheila (Dale) and sons Alex, Marc and Ryan and Miriam and sons Patrick, Daniel and Matthew.
Always sociable, in her new country, she made many friends in the Irish community and was the consummate "feis Mom" in Irish dancing. Deeply religious, she said her Rosary Novena every night before bed and would go to Mass every day if she could. She loved Irish music, Lawrence Welk, flowers and the colour pink. She was always ready for a party and could dance for hours and her talent and interest has been passed down to her family. She was famous for her birthday parties and her generous spirit extended to the friend of her children and grandchildren. The family gathered at the Parkway Forest condo on Christmas night for many years to share their day and Sheila was always happiest surrounded by the activity of a large family.
After Paddy died, Sheila moved to Scarborough Court and directed her endless energy to volunteering at the Tuck Shop and organized a nightly Tea Club. She later moved to the Houses of Provindence where she received exceptional care. With her sweet and gentle nature, always grateful and never complaining, she was content there. The Delaney family would like to extend its thanks and gratitude to the caring staff. All who knew her have fond memories of this exceptional lady.
Visitation will take place at R. S Kane funeral home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto (west side of Yonge St. South of Steeles Ave), on Thursday, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Convent, Morrow Park, 3377 Bayview Ave on Friday at 1PM. Internment Holy Cross Cemetery.
