It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Manon at North York General Hospital. Manon was the wife of the late Ponnudurai (Peter) Kulendran, mother of Nivedita (Niva, m. Vic Li Preti), Renuka (Renu, m. Neil Foster) and Naresh (Nash, m. Tosca Kinchelow). She was the proud grandmother to Maya, Wyatt, Naomi, Syene, Christian, Noah and Xavier. Manon was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. K. Arasaratnam and was the sister of Christine Bella Charles (d.), Angelina Richards (d.), Victoria Thungaratnam (d.), S.R. Sekaran, Varnodevi Somasundram, P.S. Sekaran, and Kuneswari Thevathasan and sister-in-law to Jane Vijesurier, all residing in Malaysia. She will be dearly missed by her much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews in Australia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom and United States of America. Her children extend their gratitude to the physicians, nurses and PSWs who cared so well for her during her illness.
A lifelong educator, Manon was a graduate of Brinsford College, U.K (Dip.Ed.). and York University (B.A., B.Ed.). She taught with the North York Board of Education until her retirement in 1996. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1970, Manon taught in the United Kingdom and Malaysia.
Manon was an elite track and field athlete, recreational tennis player, avid gardener, sports fanatic, world traveller and painter. She was an active member of St. Theodore of Canterbury Anglican Church in Toronto and the Retired Teachers Association of Ontario. Her regular visits to her son Naresh’s family in Fort Lauderdale allowed her to witness the emerging talents of her tennis-playing grandchildren. Manon never missed a Toronto Raptors game, and closely followed the highs and lows of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. Manon had an active and full life and over the years developed many friendships with people around the world. She was generous, loyal and kind.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be a private, live-streamed funeral on Dec. 28 at 10 am., and a memorial service with friends attending will be deferred until late 2021. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society and Dorothy Ley Hospice.
