Jim passed in peace and comfort in the early hours of July 1st, following a valiant battle with cancer. Cherished husband of Katherine Anne Osterlund, and beloved father to Rachel Patricia Downey and Jackson James Downey. Brother to John Downey (Pauline Reynolds) and Patricia Jones née Downey (Kevin Jones). Jim was also much loved by all his nieces and nephews, Ashley Onesi née Jones (John Onesi), Sean Downey (Jessica Soria-Downey), Gavin Jones (Alicia Jones), Ian Downey (Dasha Downey), and Emmet Downey (Marissa Leon-John). Jim was also the closest chosen family to Patrick Jairam and Melanie Singh, and countless others. Jim was predeceased by his parents, John Andrew Downey and Patricia Josephine Downey née Dunne, originally of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Jim lived his life with joy and optimism, loving his family and friends and supporting them in every way he possibly could. All his life he learned new things and embraced every chance to hear good music and have new adventures, like buying a sailboat and learning to sail for the sheer joy of being on the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay. Jim had a million stories of the wild and wonderful experiences he had in his long career and too short life. Tales told very often in front of a roaring fire with a whiskey and a cigar.
