Jeffie!..Today July 2/2022  marks a year you were tragically taken from your dear family and friends and all your brother and sisters in blue,  and every soul you ever touched during your  amazing lifetime.
To know you was to adore you.
The sound of your contagious laughter and all your cartoon impressions and your beautiful heart will light my heart forever.
You were truly one of the finest officers that ever graced the halls of 11 Division.
To Jeff's family his legacy and light will live on in each and every one of you. This I know for certain you were all the light of his life.

My condolences to Jeff’s family. I knew Jeff in high school. We were friends. He was a great guy, the “giant teddy bear” type. The kind of guy who was always there to lend a hand and listen when you needed an ear. I remember talking about our future career plans. I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to do. Not Jeff. He had a plan. He was going to be a police officer. He never wavered from that. I remember asking him why he wanted to be a police officer and didn’t he realize the risk. Jeff calmly explained that he felt it wasn’t a career choice as much as it was a calling. He talked about society’s need to protect those who needed protection, to stand up for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves, and our collective responsibilities to each other. He spoke with such pride, passion and conviction that I never doubted he would achieve his goal. Like many high school friendships the connection faded once we graduated and went our separate ways.  However, looking at his face, I found myself stepping back in time. I remember a great friend, and an even better human being. One who had the courage to do what very few do. I can only imagine the pain that those who are close to him feel. My deepest condolences to his wife, kids, mom, family, and colleagues. To Jeff, thank you for your friendship, your bravery and your service. The world is a better place because you were here. Rest In Peace. 

Lots of great memories. Camping with friends, Scouting events, Potluck dinner planning meetings, Parking lot conversations sharing jokes and stories (many times)

There is one particular memory I would like to share. 

Jeff joined Cub Scouts for an Eco Spirit Hike at Blue Springs Scout Reserve in Acton, On.

There were lot of activities in addition to  the hike. We joined an activity  involving a hawk. The handler was talking with the youth and advised that he would release the hawk but they needed to be quiet and sit still. The hawk would fly around from tree to tree and when called he would return to him.

The kids were so excited to watch the hawk fly from tree to tree.  However, they got the  best laugh of the day when the hawk chose to land on Jeff's head and stay there! The cubs remembered this for a long time.  Each year we attended this hike, the kids that were at the original one always had a "remember when" moment and a good laugh. 

Jeff, it was an honor to know you, to work with you, to learn from you, to laugh with you.

May you rest in peace. It is well deserved. You will be greatly missed by many.

I met officer jeff northup        
when I was on the streets  he was amazing person who cared for everyone he told me I could  become a person who cared about myself and not let people take me down the wrong path and I listen to everything he said and saw him a few years later and I had got married and had four kids as well as I went to hair dressing school  and got my licence and I told him it was because of what he told me many years ago  he is going to be missed by so many he was a hero to me

It's with a sad heart I share a memory I remember Mr. Jeffrey back in his court service days He was a good decent man it didn't matter why you were in the courts or what your charge was he treated you with respect and was a kind man. Then later I applied for a court officer and when I got accepted I walked into class and Jeff was there as well. We became court officers together. So many memories. I had the privilege of working with Jeff many, many moons ago at the Prisoner Transportation Unit (as it was then known) on “A” Platoon. After all the work was done, magical treats would randomly appear to be shared with his friends and colleagues alike. I was always amazed how Jeff found the time between shifts to whip up the variety of creations he often brought into to share.

Margaret: I still remember to this day, the warmth I heard in Jeff’s voice when he said your name “Maggie”. There is no doubt in my mind how much he loved you and I am certain that love extended to Brennen, Samantha and Mitchell as they arrived over the years that followed.  

Jeff touched the lives of so many people over his 31 years with Toronto Police Service, I am certain those who had the opportunity to know, and work with him will miss him greatly.

Jeff was just a great person to know and work alongside of. I knew Jeff from courts and  worked with him at 52 for 13 years. He always had a big smile and the time of day for you. He was a gentle giant and an officer that you loved to work with. He was professional and compassionate and the guy who loved his co workers. 

Jeff spoke proudly of his wife, children and their accomplishments and had the greatest smile when talking about the family vacations.

 I worked with Jeff in MCU during his first tour and PRU. An amazing officer who will be dearly missed

Dear Margaret, it was truly devastating to learn of Jeff's passing.  May the Lord hold you and give strength to yourself, Diane, Brennan, Sammie and Mitchell as you go through this difficult time.

I remember Jeff from the time at 2nd Bramalea Cubs.  My favourite memory of him was when he took the kids on a tour of the police station.  Jeffie's  sheer excitement at sharing the place he worked was apparent.  He locked the cubs up in the holding cells and paddy wagons, pretended he was going to feed poor Tristan to the police dogs in the padded suit and we almost lost a few cubs in the lake at their excitement with the marine unit.  However Jeff preserved even when the kids got really excited showing calm even when faced with a pack of cubs 😀 .  (A horde of 30 extremely excited 5-7 year-old kids is scary as any teacher will tell you) Jeffie was so exited to show the kids everything to do with policing he even played the part of a 'bad guy' with the police dogs.  I will miss his enthusiasm and the way he could make everyone share in his enthusiasm.   

Jeff was a gentle giant that we will all feel great loss for having him ripped away so soon.

May you find comfort in your family, friends  and the Lord as you go through this difficult time.

Maggie, I remember when we were chatting one evening at work and you told me how proud you were that Jeff had applied to join the Police. He was always friendly and chatty with me all those years ago and I thought then that he was a shinning example of what the public would expect a police officer to be so it surprised nobody when he was accepted. 
I was shocked when I saw the news and can't imagine the pain you are going through right now. Words seem so insignificant at this time but always know that he will never be forgotten and he worked all his life to make a difference for others.

Jeff was a gentle giant, in size, in spirit, and in heart.
I always looked forward to seeing come to our scout meetings and camps.  I enjoyed working with him in scouts and helping to mentor his sons. 
He was a good friend, a great father, and an excellent husband.
He will be missed greatly!
