Having shared an enjoyable morning with his family, Herb passed away at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey May (nee Redmon), with whom he shared 63 loving years. Fondly remembered by his children Goldie Jeanjacques, Dale (Connie), Bernice, and Rochelle Carnegie. Grandpa of Vaughn Chambers, Darren (Peggy) Carnegie, Brooke Chambers, Kevin Jeanjacques, Kalimah (George) Hadaway, Tamu (Michael) Bracken, Corey Chambers, Christopher Carnegie, and Rane Carnegie and great-grandpa of Ton'shuna, Nikia, Kyla, Kyler, Trevor, Blair, Tra'von, and Bryten. Predeceased by his brothers Eric and Ossie Carnegie, sisters Geraldine Walker and Bernice Redmon, and survived by his siblings Lillian Murrell and Ross Carnegie. Sadly missed by his good friend and companion Grace Matthews. We gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care and many friends Herb made at his final residence at the Donway Place. Toronto born of Jamaican heritage, Herb was a star athlete in hockey and golf. He excelled as a Financial Planner with Investors Group for 32 years. Community icon and role model, Herb was proud to represent York Regional Police as an Honorary Chief of Police. In 1956, he created the Future Aces Philosophy, now used in schools as a tool to enhance safe schools programs. He co-founded, with his wife Audrey and daughter Bernice, the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation, celebrating its 25th year. The Foundation has enriched the lives of thousands of youth through its character building and educational programs, including national citizenship/scholarship bursaries. Lifetime achievements include the naming of a school and an arena in his honour, induction in 10 Halls of Fame, 7 medals for community service and being a real life comic book character in two special issues of Spiderman. Friends may visit on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Celebration of Herb's Life will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Earl Haig Secondary School (100 Princess Ave.). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation or Herbert H. Carnegie Endowment Scholarship (York University).
