I have come to know Geoff both personally and professionally over the past four years and have had many pleasant pub lunches with him over this time. His strength and good humor during the past year was inspirational. I have just returned from attending the celebration of his life and it was plain for all to see what a lucky family you were to have a man of such character, good humour and integrity as part of your lives. I feel most fortunate to have had the past four years with Geoff and will miss him terribly. You are to be congratulated on your moving tribute to him. Geoff was a great friend and a wonderfully unique person. He had an incredibly positive outlook and was always looking at the big picture. These aspects of his personality became evident when we were going to St. George's. He was always one for an adventure ( and there were many ) and was never one to go any path but his own. After university, Geoff left Vancouver to continue his life's voyage so we did not see each other very often. But Geoff always kept in touch with his old schoolmates and whenever he would come back into town we would get together. It was like the clock had stopped and no time had gone by. Instantly, the warmth and humour of our friendship would return ( and as I know now, that is because it never left because once you were a friend of Geoff's, you were a friend for life ). Even though he was very ill and in quite a bit of pain, Geoff made the effort to come back to Vancouver last fall to be at our 35th reunion. It was amazing to spend time with him and he was, as always, the centre of all the activities. My wife, Cathy ( who also had known Geoff for 40 years ) myself and a few other old friends had lunch with Geoff while he was here and it was a wonderful afternoon, the time just flew by. As usual he was so warm, so funny and yet something new, so serious. He knew he was in for the fight of his life and was determined to live every moment and to maximize every opportunity. The most humbling thing was that he was not concerned for himself, but for his family and friends. He wanted to give us all the benefit of his new and deeper insight into life. to understand that time is precious and that we shouldn't allow ourselves to lose that invaluable commodity by being distracted with the small and petty issues that life brings our way. It was an invaluable lesson and one foe which I am enormously grateful. The world is a much better place for having had Geoff spreading his unique joy and friendship for the past 54 years. I was shocked and disheartened to hear, only a few days ago, of Geoff's valiant fight over the past year and his final passing. Thirty years ago, I first met Geoff, through my soon-to-be husband Peter, who was a close friend of his. Geoff had such a great wit and charm that was endearing to me. I always considered him to be a big happy teddy bear. Shortly thereafter, I was introduced and welcomed into Geoff's parents' home with great generosity, warmth and spirit. For example, I remember Mary making us all "post-partying" Eggs Benedict for a crowd at four o'clock in the morning! Later, and by co-incidence, Geoff's and Peter's careers both led to London where I first met Geoff's wife Maureen. I took an immediate liking to her with her easy-going personality - great smile. And so to Maureen and sons Geoffrey and Graham, and to John and Mary and family, I express my sincere condolences and sympathy. The Bouceks celebrate their ever-lasting friendship with Geoff our loving friend and fellow Loughtonian and we offer our deepest condoleances to Maureen, Geoffrey, Graham and all the family. It was thanks to Betty the unforgettable midwife that our frienship started two decades ago in Loughton (UK) where both our families settled in 1988 following job transfers from Toronto. Since your return to Canada in 1998, Jan has missed his 'reality checks' with Geoff at the Victoria Tavern and we have all missed the great laughs we used to have together. However, we are thankful that our friendship has been nurtured and renewed throughout the past decade and we fondly remember our visit to Folly's End in July 2005 when Louise, Geoffrey and Graham reconnected so well after a 7-year separation. I remember Geoff well as one of a number of very fine students and personal friends while I served as Chaplain of St. George's School, Vancouver. He was a perfect gentleman, kind, generous and courteous. I have followed his wonderful career with great interest, and will remember him and his very caring family in my thoughts and prayers.

Here are but a few words that I would use to describe you Geoff: loving, caring, generous, energetic, bright, trustworthy, and a man of integrity, decency and principle. You have been an inspiration to me and it is my great privileged to call you my friend. I will miss you in so many ways…we really had some good times and good laughs together. First, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Geoff’s family. To Maureen and their sons; to Mary, John, Patrick, Julia and Peggy, I am so very sorry for your loss. Geoffrey was a very special, unique and endearing person with great spirit. He and I were close friends for 20 years, and we shared many good times and adventures together, until life’s twists, turns and distances eventually kept us out of touch, which I truly regret. In fact, I was stunned to learn of Geoff’s illness and passing just last night, through a distantly mutual friend. I am deeply saddened by the loss of a close friend and an extraordinary man. We shared many great memories, and, over the years, we often recounted many of those memories, resulting inevitably into gales of laughter, of which Geoff’s merriment was utterly infectious; I wish that I had had a chance to revisit some of these memories with him, and that I had had a chance to say good-bye. Have been the fortunate recipient of Maureen's sense of fun and loylaty since grade 6. Her dad didn't want her to play with me because, I was perceived by 60's standards as 'spirited.' Not a good quality in an adolescent back then! Little did he know then that Maureen was the spirited one, and that Geoff would eventually come to love and benefit from her spirit. I didn't know Geoff well, only through the joy that he brought to Maureen's life over the last twenty years. On our annual high school girls week-end, she talked about him, through all the exaspirations of married life with laughter and love. He brought more to her life than I can recount. Takes a very special family to nurture a brother, son, husband and father like Geoff. Thank you Mrs. Richmond, Mr. Plant, Julia and Peggy for sharing Geoff with all of us. All interesting men are a study in contrasts and Geoff was one of the best of those. A big manly man's man who had no sense of direction and could not find his way even with detailed instructions. A guy who could carve wood, fell trees, build tree-houses but who was brought to his knees with the task of putting together an Ikea shelf. A man who travelled the world and lived on all the coasts, near all the seas, yet found true peace only in the forests of Epping and Folly's. An truly interesting man our Geoff, he will be deeply missed, and forever remembered through all the good stories we can tell. Did I ever tell you about the time we got lost in downtown Malaga......... ?

My brother, Peter called to tell me of Geoff's passing. I was glad to have had the opportunity of talking with Geoff prior to Christmas and through emails. His spirit in that conversation was strong and inspiring. I remember our youthful misadventures at St. George's and at UBC. Those memories will always bring a smile to my face. I will always remember dinners with him on my frequent trips to Toronto which routinely entailed good red meat, good red wine and stimulating conversation about family first, then friends, then on to business and solving the world's problems.
