For the past several years, I had the pleasure of working closely with Ed on several projects and proposals at Golder. Working and learning from him is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had and I will truly miss this but I thank God for having provided me wth this opportunity. Also being of Goan heritage, when my father passed away 7yrs ago, Ed became like a surrogate father someone I could talk to about almost anything and someone who had an interest in helping me including with my career. I will truly miss not having him around but his spirit will live on as I move forward and use the lessons and guidance he gave me to help me each day. God bless his soul.

I worked with Edmund at URS Corporation (now AECOM) beginning early last year and until he was no longer able to work. Our working relationship was a long-distance one, as I am a remote employee working from my home in South Florida. All of our communication was via phone or email; I had never seen his face before today, when I learned of his death and was provided a link to this website and saw his picture.



	Ed and I worked on a project together, but one for which he had only a little involvement, which was the way he wanted it. I know he was enjoying the ability to walk a fine line that allowed him to keep working, but not so much that it took up too much of his time. He was very good at what he did, and even with his limited involvement, he helped us out a lot.



	I'm glad Ed got a chance to do some traveling with his family in the last couple of years of his life. Many of our non-work-related conversations were about his travels to South Florida and to other places abroad.



	It was a shock yesterday to find out he had passed away (most of us outside the office where he worked had no idea his illness was so serious), and we wish his family to know that we considered him a valued and talented co-worker, a friend, and a very pleasant, just plain nice man. We will miss him greatly.

Since we heard the sad news of Ed's passing many thoughts have entered our minds including an appreciation of his contribution to Leila's graduate thesis and as a mentor to Sean, but our fondest memory is from one of the URS Christmas Party where Ed was randomly seleced to compete in a dance off. Various songs were played ranging from the Macarana to Gangnam Style and the chicken dance. It was fun watching Ed, he did a great job for all of the dances, but even more fun was watching Antonia's excited and happy face as she cheered him on (with a little bit of sideline direction). This really showed what a beautiful bond they had. He will be missed.

Dear Bruno and family So sorry to learn of the passing away of Edmund. We have vivid and fond memories of the Rodrigues family in Nairobi in those good old days. My sincere condolences to Antonia and Family. The funeral was a beautiful service that was fitting for a wonderful, kind and humble man. I will be forever grateful to have had the privilege of working with Ed for most of the past 10 years. He was truly a great mentor, and friend. He will be sadly missed.

Dear Eric and Craig, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. My deepest sympathies. This is very sad news, but the only silver lining is that he didn't have to suffer any longer. The last couple days I was thinking of my fondest memories of Edmund. Top of the list is when he took us to the planetarium with the huge telescope to see saturn when we were small. Close second is, when him and my dad tried to make wine with the grapes at your old house on Davisville and third is when Eric was trying to perfect his breakdancing skills in the basement with rap music blasting and Edmund came down to got angry at our poor taste of music. It was comic genius. He was such a gentle, kind, intelligent person. I wish I made more opportunites to have kept in touch with him over the years. I hope both of you are doing okay. Your dad's spirit and the memories you have of him will always be with you.

June-21-15 This is so sad. We both had prostate cancer and had the same regimen, but I for almost ten years. I am so sorry. Though I did not meet Ed so often, he was a valued friend and colleague since we met at University of Nairobi since 1968. I shall miss him greatly. Please give my condolences to his family. Edmund was a very careful and painstaking researcher and always generous with his thoughts and his advice, always imparted with a quick grin and humour. He was an excellent teacher and guide to his assistants. I am in Lethbridge this week visiting my daughter and will not attend the rites. For that too I am truly sorry. My sincere condolences to the Rodrigues family. Ed will be greatly missed by all of those with whom he worked. He was an informed scientist, a careful analyst and a creative problem-solver. With his experience in both public and private sectors, Ed was instrumental in bridging gaps between parties to resolve complicated circumstances. But what I will remember most is that Ed was always a gentlemen, showing respect to all.

I was very saddened to hear of Ed's passing last week, and wish to offer Ed's family my deepest sympathy. May God grant you peace at this difficult time. Ed and I worked together for 10 years at Golder, both starting around the same time. I was early on in my career, and Ed was starting his second career after MOE. I had the opportunity to work very closely with Ed on a daily basis for 5 years; he taught me so much - not just about the hard science but also about the broader implications of our work. I also got to know Ed socially through conversations at work; It was so obvious that he loved and prioritized his family; always talking about Antonia, the kids and of course about Jayda and Greyson. We will all miss his smiling face around the office.

My thoughts and heartfelt prayers to Ed’s family, friends and work associates. Ed was a true gentleman, always warm and kind. He was a great teacher that always provided thoughtful counsel that helped me progress in my career. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on in all those that he touched.

It was after after we had done our Cambridge Higher school certifciate so  early 1964 and a few of us..I think 4  of us,decided to climb Mount Longonot near Lake Naivasha . we took the train and got off at the railway station with not a lot of gear. We had those plastic type rain coats and some sandwiches and thought that was all we needed. The trail up to the crater mouth is about 3Km and we thought it was too tame for us so we decided to walk straight up through the bushes.Well, we did not expect to get our raincoats and clothes ripped to almost shreds. We found our way back down to the railway station and had to huddle to keep warm and waited to catch the next available train back to Nairobi. No real plan,no phones , just a will to do a trip. Edmund always reminded me of this trip and his recollection was always better than mine.



	 Edmund and I hung out in form 6 at the Duke of Gloucester school. We did the subsidery Latin class as ,back in those days,university required a 2nd language.Edmund was the harder worker of us 2 and its thanks to him that I got through my Form 6. We met up again in TO around 1972 , when he came for a visit.



	 We have kept in touch and had dinner around thanksgiving  last year in TO.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have known Ed for over 41 years. We joined the Ministry of the Environment at the same time and we went on to work together at Smithville and most recently at Golder. Ed was a true, dear friend who helped me through difficult times. He was always ready to provide support and guidance. I will miss you dearly.

Edmund, my gentle older brother - I'm going to really miss you.



	I do not use the word "brother" trivially. When Edmund's brother Edwin was dying of cancer back in Kenya, I lived with him and with other teachers from Strathmore School where he spent so many years of his life and where we all called him Prof. I would regularly communicate with Edmund and keep him abreast of the latest developments and even act as a go between for him and Veronica with their brother Edwin. With a week to go, I told Veronica and Edmund about the crucial stage we had reached and Edmund came on time to have one last face to face chat with Edwin before he left us. I'll never forget  the funeral Mass at Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi. Edmund gave a tribute to Edwin at the end of which he said that due to our intense interaction in the preceding months, he now considered me a member of the family. And he literally said to the congregation "From now on, you will no longer be just Vincent Ogutu, but Vincent Rodrigues Ogutu." From that day on, I have always signed off that way when writing to Edmund since I felt deeply touched and honored. So I write this tribute as a member of the family who has just lost a brother.



	 



	To the rest of the family, know that you can always count on my prayers, both now in New York and also when I return soon to Nairobi in a couple of months' time. And I am sure that Edmund will continue to gently take care of all of us from heaven, where he is now reunited with the rest of our family that was on hand to welcome him.

A light has dimmed in our neighbourhood and our lives with your passing from this life to an even better one Ed. We will miss the familiar sight of you heading on your bicycle to tennis, walking with your beloved Antonia and playing with your grandkids in the court. Your gentle reserved spirit, your determination to go for a walk even as you faced significant pain was so admired by us. Always a GENTLEman, you supported us as we grieved and for that we will be eternally grateful. We will keep our promise to ensure Antonia is assisted in whatever way we can. Gone way too soon! Rest in peace friend.
