Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital K Wing Palliative Care Unit in his 95th year. Adored husband and best friend of his wife of 33 years, Sophie. Lovingly remembered by his son, Allen (Paula) and his daughter, Robin. Poppa of Ryan (Catherine), James (Jeanne) and Matthew. Great-grandfather of Aria, McKayla, Hazel and two day old Juliana who he met in his final hours. Fondly remembered by his nieces Darby, Mary Jane (Brian), Lucy Ann, Marilyn (Leo) and their families and his many friends. Predeceased by his first wife Vivian Grace (nee Mitchell) in 1973, his parents Fred and Florence (nee Baker), his sister Lucille and brother-in-law Eric.
Born in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England, Al celebrated his 7th birthday crossing the Atlantic en route to Canada. His life in Canada proved to be one of character, purpose and longevity in his actions. Al served in the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. His career at Crouse-Hinds Canada spanned 50 years, with the majority of those years as Personnel Director. Al was an active member of the Bayview Golf & Country Club for over 40 years, curling in mixed and men’s leagues well into his 90th year.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bayview Golf & Country Club (25 Fairway Heights Dr., Thornhill). Reception will follow until 6 pm. If desired, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Hospital – Odette Cancer Centre or to Princess Margaret Hospital.
