Wilma Leonard Baird, born on January 9, 1930, in Thomasville, NC, peacefully passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 94.
Wilma attended Thomasville High School and later worked as an inspector at The Wrenn, a hosiery mill. Wilma was full of life and never met a stranger. She had a feisty spirit that kept her going all these years. She loved talking to people, dancing, and laughing.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle Leonard; her husband, J. M. Baird; siblings Mary, George, Harold, Roy, Doris, Luther, and Evelyn; and her niece Frances Johnson and nephew Raymond Powell.
Wilma is survived by her daughters, Angie Sowers and partner Charles Martin, Donna Hill and husband Jerry; as well as her grandchildren, Jami Sanchez and husband Juan, Taylor Crum and husband Aaron, Brandon Martin and wife Brittney, and Tyler Martin; her great-grandchildren, Landon, Liam, Olivia, Charlotte, and Cohen; and her grand-dogs, Cocoa and Teddie.
Services honoring Wilma's life will be held at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home in Thomasville on Wednesday, May 29, with visitation at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m., Pastor Rod Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
