Janice was born on March 10, 1945 in Mullins, SC to the late Daniel Jasper and Mary Elizabeth Spivey Nealey. She was a member of Lighthouse Gospel Tabernacle and retired from Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. She enjoyed singing, fishing, cooking, sewing, puzzles and traveling to Texas. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Fred Johnston; daughter, Wanda Faye Wright; one sister, Margaret Nealey; four brothers; one grandson, David Safarik, Jr.; two great grandchildren, Austin Stephens and Noah Nealey; and son-in-law, Michael Smith, Sr.
Surviving are her daughters, Georgia Edna Smith of Houston, TX, Tammy Hill and husband Harold and Mary Sue Slayton and husband Michael, both of Thomasville; son, Curtis Nealey and wife Sherry of Tabor City; Rev. Dale Elbertson, whom she loved like a son, and his wife Lynn of Thomasville; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two brothers, James Nealey and wife Sarah of Denton and Joe Nealey and wife Jean of Virginia.
A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, May 25th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Elbertson officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday, May 24th at the funeral home.
