Rev. Whitfield was born on January 13, 1925 in Macon, GA to the late Arthur and Mamie Cigers Whitfield. For many years, Rev. Whitfield faithfully served the Lord and was a member Christian Cathedral in Thomasville. He was also a decorated veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Vernell Lance, Frances Kearns, Joanne Proctor, Brenda Whitfield, and Vialee Moore; and two brothers, Hollis and Gene Whitfield.
Surviving are his children, Linda W. Jones and her husband Larry of Rock Hill, SC and George Whitfield and his wife Sharon of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Amy, Mark, and Chris; and one great granddaughter, Alana. Also surviving are siblings, Carolyn Watts and her husband Marvin and Rev. Bobby Whitfield and his wife Mary Jo.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, August 25th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Whitfield and Rev. Adam Dillon officiating. Burial with military rites will follow the service in the Bible Revival Cemetery in Kernersville. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 pm Thursday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
