Rita Gayle (Foster) Herrington

Our mom, Rita Gayle Herrington (née Foster), passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023; she was just 72 years old. She was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana and spent most of her childhood across the river in Henderson, Kentucky. She graduated from Henderson County High School in 1969. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Indiana, and her Master of Education and Ph.D. from Indiana State University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi.

She was a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, and thereafter at the University of Evansville and Brescia University. She taught semesters abroad in Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents James R. (Cotton) Foster and Robbie (Bobbie) Waide Foster. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Foster (Marie Banks Foster); two daughters Monica Bryan Brashear (Travis Brashear) and Elizabeth Bryan Lopp (Jason Branch). She adored her grandchildren: Bryan Devereaux (Beaux) Brashear, Nicholas Brashear, Anna Lopp, Jane Lopp and Travis Branch.

A funeral mass will be held in her honor Monday, October 9th at noon at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (8715 Kuykendahl Road, The Woodlands, TX 77382) in the Our Lady of the Angels Chapel. All friends and relatives are welcome.
