Mary Dalene Vaughn

Mary Dalene McDonald Vaughn, born May 27, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on April 18, 2023 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her husband and family in her home in Tomball as she was called to be with Jesus.

Despite being born in the north, Mary was quick to adopt southern hospitality. Caring for others was in her nature. She was always willing to share a meal, lend an ear, or offer pearls of wisdom that would keep her company in stitches. She loved to play games, watch Westerns and baseball, sing hymns and country songs, and share a laugh. Mary spent the majority of her life as a homemaker, but was proud of her time caring for students as part of Aldine ISD food services. She was an excellent mother, but she was born to be a memaw. Her greatest joy was her family and she would readily regale all who listened with stories of their adventures and accomplishments, complete with a wallet full of photos. Mary and her husband were blessed with 53 years of marriage.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Jean, her sisters, Jeanette and Patty, her brothers-in-law, Leo and Myrle, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth, her sons-in-law, James and Lyle, and her great-grandson, Harrison. She is survived by her husband, James, their daughters, Cathy, Christine, and Cindy, her son-in-law, Mark, and her brother, Jim. Her influence and memory are deeply treasured by ten grandchildren, seven grandchildren-in-law, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, April 27th at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Mary will be laid to rest at Suggs Cemetery in Hearne, TX.
