Being raised in a Christian home, Lyria accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and continued to nurture her faith as an adult.
Lyria graduated from Flint Northern High School, Flint, Michigan in 1981. She furthered her education at Alcorn State University, Lorman, MS, proudly graduating in 1987.
In 1994, Lyria relocated to Houston, TX, and began a 29 year career with M. David Lowe Staffing, where she was a Talent Acquisition Manager in the oil and gas industry.
On June 4, 2001, Lyria welcomed her pride, joy, and only child, Timothy Charles Grant-Randall. Theirs was an endearing and inseparable bond.
On October 17, 2015, she married her loving husband, Edmund J. Petry, and together a beautiful blended family was created.
Lyria was selfless, loving, and giving. Her beautiful, infectious smile could fill any room, and people were naturally drawn to her. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was witty and always the life of the party. She had a passion for shopping and was known for wearing her "bling".
Lyria transitioned peacefully into the loving care of her heavenly Father on November 3, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gloria and Leso Grant; her uncles, Charles Marsh, Joe Marsh, and Ronald Marsh; Samuel(Helen)Grant, George (Lottie) Grant, Marvin (Beulah) Grant, and Andrew(Willie) Grant; her aunts, Olevia Bullock, Mattie Lee Pounds, Viola Walker, Virginia Grant and many other family members and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Edmund J. Petry; beloved son, Timothy Charles Grant-Randall; Stepsons, Edmund Petry Cooper and Edmund E. Petry; Stepdaughters, Christina Petry Johnson (Rodney) and Shanna Petry Mays (Quincy); thirteen step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild.
As an only child, Lyria was blessed to have a sibling-like relationship with her cousins, who will also have fond memories of her. Ricky Grant, Donald Grant (Deborah), Sharon Grant, Debra Grant, Marilyn Grant, George Grant III, Anne R. Smith, Phyllis Grant-Bowman, Janice (Teffany)Pierce, Harold(Joyce)Grant, Larry(Faye)Grant, Dennis(Mae)Grant,Yolonda(Jason)Perkins, Joseph(Joann)Pounds.
She will also be remembered by her best friend, Sheila Stewart.
Lyria Regina Grant-Petry leaves behind a legacy of love and joy and will forever remain in the hearts all who knew her.
