Lucy Vivian Clay was born October 31, 1938, in Smithdale, Mississippi. She was the third of 14 children born to the late Willie and Mazie B. Martin. She entered into eternal life on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Spring Creek Village Memory Care, in Spring, Texas.
To share and capture the true essence of Lucy is to speak of her dedicated commitment to family. On April 5, 1964 she was united in marriage to Harvey Clay, and to this union three children were born – two daughters, Tina, and Felicia and one son, Kenneth. She was a proud wife, mother, ‘Grandma Lucy’ and godmother. Spending time with her grandchildren Chloe and Christopher brought her so much joy, and she always looked forward to her travel to see them.
Lucy was a dedicated working member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Gary, Indiana for over three decades. As an advocate for children, she devoted many years working with Girl Scouts of America and became an entrepreneur by starting a private home daycare. She continued her success as a consultant for Home Interiors & Gifts where she had a special way of working with people to transform their homes and spirits. Her kindness, caring, giving, and sharing spirit, is why she was so loved and well respected by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Clarence Martin, William K. Martin, Hezekiah Martin, and sisters, Gloria Barnes, and Margie Floyd.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband, Harvey Clay; children, Tina (Kevin) Bell, Felicia Clay, and Kenneth Clay; grandchildren, Chloe and Christopher Bell; godchild, James “Jayme” Hedrick IV; brothers, Donald Martin, and James Martin; sisters, Lorine Patterson, Synola Martin, Mary Frazier, Evonne Berry, Mazie Hedrick and Cynthia Martin, and a host of relatives and friends.
