I am so shocked and saddened to hear that my lovely friend Joan (I always called her Joanie) has died.  When I taught the yoga class she attended, we quickly became great friends and I enjoyed her so much.  Since I stopped teaching and she lost her husband, our times together were fewer, but we would talk on the phone every few months.  I am ashamed that I was not a better, more attentive friend to her. I pray that knew how much I loved her.

Blessings to her family and God bless my lovely, generous, funny friend. Lord, please take special care of her.

At first I knew Joan as a co-worker,then as my boss. We quickly became friends, although we had very little in common, but her way with people, her way of managing, just worked. She was the most generous & kind person I've ever known. We eventually moved to the same neighborhood, & after she retired our friendship grew. She would bring flowers, bags of candy, etc. by my house on special occasions, & never forgot to bring something for my husband as well. She had such a beautiful spirit and can never be replaced. I will never forget her,& will always miss her! I know she's in a better place now, probably attending to patients & probably bossing a few people around as only she could do.Heaven is in good hands!!!

Joan was one of the most caring, thoughtful, and funny people I have had the pleasure of working with. Margaret, Leigh Ann & I will go to our meeting place in Burton and have a piece of coconut creme pie in your honor.  Farewell Dear Friend.

Dear Ken and Karen, Deepest sympathy in the loss of your sister. I first met Joan (and Bob) when my mother married your Uncle Nick. Joan kindly introduced the "new kid" to the neighborhood and the school. When she receieved her cap at nursing school, I was so proud of her and glad to be there on her special day. She will be missed and fondly remembered.

From childhood on, I always looked up to my cousin Joan. My memories of her from the earliest days were that, along with her great heart, she was always wise beyond her years.  Later, I admired her devotion to our country, nursing soldiers in Vietnam. Her answer to the call to duty and service to others was profound. Many veterans owe a great deal to her. We all do for her having been a part of our lives.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of Joan . My thoughts and prayer are with all of you at this time of sorrow.

We are sorry to hear of the loss of our dear cousin Joan. We have such fond memories of her including her wonderful sense of humor and all of her great stories of the places where she served our country. Thank you for being a wonderful niece to my mother, you were like another daughter to her. I admired your tireless service to the many wounded young men you heiped in Viet Nam. I will remember you. Enjoy your new journey we enjoyed having you in this one.

Dear Ken and Karen;
   There is a major hole in my heart as my co-conspirator in Szwarc history is gone.  She was my sounding board and the burr in my saddle blanket.  We spent many hours happily theorizing and finding family stories.  She opened her arms and loved a second hand "outlaw"  that married her cousin Gene.  I miss her emails and calls.  She was so warm and so loving . . . always ready for some fun.  She lived life to the fullest always with the family even though far away here in Texas.  My condolences to you, Ken and Karen.  She will be sorely missed.

Joan will be dearly missed. We looked forward to her phone calls every few weeks just to see how Mom was doing. Mom is heart broken and she will miss her conversations and caring from Joan. Wish we could be with you Ken and Karen.

Ken and Karen, Joan was one of my favorite cousins. I remember growing up her high school graduation and when she graduated from nursing school. I was always so proud of her. She has always been so kind and thoughtful to my Mom. She will be truly missed. God Bless Her and welcome her into His arms. Tom and Carol Simmons (Florida)

Joan, My godmother and my cousin, you will always be in my heart. You graced this world with love and compassion. Ken, my cousin and friend, my deepest sympathy for your lost. I know how much you loved your sister.She will truly be missed.

Her warmth was so natural and she made everyone feel included.  A lovely presence I will miss seeing again.  Peace and Love to all the large and loving family.

No one could ever replace the now empty space I now have in my heart for my Aunt Joan. Far, far too soon to lose such a beautiful, caring person. I cannot express my remorse in words and sincere caring for everyone in Texas who I cannot be with. Please hug one another for me.

I remember growing up with all the uncle and aunts thinking we would never be that "old".  Now, we are the uncles and aunts and begin to watch our own generation begin to pass on.  I remember Joan as accomplished and a presence to be reckon with.  I especially enjoyed the day at a family picnic when she met her goddaughter, Janet, after 20 some years.  That was more than 20 years ago but it doesn't seem that long. I will miss her as I miss all the great descendents of the Szwarc family.  Joan, thank-you for adding joy to our lives. We will all get to party together again one day. Say hello to all those "old" uncles and aunts who I'm sure are continuing the picnic somewhere far away. Sorry that I am not there to be with you but you are in my thoughts and heart as I remember happier times.

I will always remember her as such a lovely person. She will be missed.
