Jeffrey Eugene Smith passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in The Woodlands, Texas on the morning of July 22, 2017; his 60th birthday. Jeff was born on July 22, 1957 in Miami, Florida to Gerald “Bud” Smith and Brooksie Smith. His father was a member of the United States Air Force, and because of that Jeff had the opportunity to live in various cities in the United States and Germany while he was growing up. His family eventually settled in Grandview, Missouri, where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 38 years, Ann. After graduating from Grandview High School in 1975, Jeff attended the University of Missouri at Rolla and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. During his career as a petroleum engineer Jeff worked for Sun Exploration & Production for 12 years, Apache Corporation for 17 years, and Occidental Petroleum Corporation for 8 years; eventually rising to the title of Senior Vice President.
Jeff was a kindhearted, funny, and loving person, as well as a dedicated father. He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald “Bud” Smith, and survived by his mother, Brooksie Smith; wife, Ann Smith; and children, Molly Smith and Michael Smith. Jeff was especially proud of his children, and was particularly happy to see both of them find their calling and receive their doctorates.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 30 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 Interstate 45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384, with a reception to follow.
