Janet F. Smith of The Woodlands, TX passed away surrounded by her family on August 28, 2014. Jan was a caring, considerate, compassionate and loving, wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all of those who knew her.
Jan was born in Evanston, IL on August 18, 1940, to loving parents, John and Stella Ferguson. Jan married Richard C. Smith on June 16, 1962 and raised three children and had 11 grandchildren.
She graduated from Albion College in Michigan with a degree in Education and began teaching. Jan taught elementary school for 34 years before retiring from Spring ISD. After retiring from teaching she joined and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Jan was passionate about teaching and education. She was a Lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) and volunteered on the Junior Quarter Horse/Youth Horse Committee.
In her personal life Jan enjoyed concerts, music and theater and attending educational courses at the local colleges. Jan had 11 grandchildren that she loved dearly. She enjoyed hearing about their activities and achievements and was always there to help and provide a smile and helpful thought or story. Her dog Layla was by her side at all times and both love each other’s company. Layla is Boxer and this breed has a special place in Jan’s heart.
Jan is survived by her daughter Stacy Senn and husband Thomas and their son TJ, her son Michael Smith and wife Dana and their children Andrew, Cody and Hannah, her daughter Kerry Eubank and husband Greg and their children Tara, Zachary, Hayden, Haylie, Colton, Logan and Brenden. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Cauffield and niece Dr. Christine Cauffield and an endless number of people she touched throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made at on the following charities in memory of Janet F. Smith.
