Dean Rex, 94, of The Woodlands, TX passed away on March 13, 2023.
Dean was born on February 19, 1929, to Joseph and Gertrude Rex in Pine City, PA. Dean graduated from Shippenville, PA High School. After graduation, Dean worked at General Electric (GE) in Erie, PA for a short time before serving in the Korean War.
After serving in the Army, Dean returned to Pennsylvania and to GE, where he had a distinguished 42-year career, advancing through numerous GE training and educational programs. Also, shortly after returning from Korea, Dean met his wife of 67+ years, Mary Anne (Dillon). They raised their four children in North East, Pennsylvania, later moving to Owensboro, KY where he eventually retired from GE.
In retirement Dean and Mary Anne moved to Indian Lake Estates (ILE), FL where they spent nearly 30 years. Dean was an avid “fix it man”, who in addition to selflessly helping countless neighbors, remodeled several homes over his lifetime. He could often be found diligently cleaning/inspecting his roof well into his 80s, despite his family’s objections.
Dean enjoyed his hobbies of rebuilding motorcycles, tractors, and just about anything that had an engine, as well as tending to “the best kept yard in ILE”. Dean and Mary Anne enjoyed traveling and did so extensively in retirement. Dean had a wicked wit and sense of humor, and stayed current with events, news, and even Facebook into his 90s. He was a loving husband and father who often enjoyed telling stories enthusiastically, recalling details with remarkable accuracy.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his 8 siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne, and four children, (Dennis Rex (Terri) of Orange County, CA, Jerry Rex (Sheri) of Cincinnati, OH, Audrey Rex Travis (Ron) of The Woodlands, TX, and Leonard Rex (Donna) of Garner, NC). Dean is also survived by 11 grandchildren (Stephanie Prostak, Matt Travis, JT Travis, Spencer Rex, Jessica Travis Embertson, Rebecca Travis, Lindsay Horak, Josiah Rex, Brandon Rex, Daniel Rex, Brian Rex), 6 great grandchildren (with 2 on the way), a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family was of utmost importance to him. Dean was a member of the Methodist Church, a 32° Mason, and a 61-year member of Scottish Rite–Valley of Erie in Pennsylvania.
