David is preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Willie Edna, sisters June and Dorothy, his brothers Rudolph, Billy, and Michael.
He is survived by his wife Katie, his 5 children, Natalie, Sherri(husband Todd Porter), Ryan(wife Stephanie), Kayla and Morgan (wife Angela), his grandchildren Preston, Benjamin, Hadleigh, Carter, Berkley, Samuel, Baylor, Carmen, Taylor and Katie Bell, his sisters, Carol and Lynda, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
David was born on Jan 10, 1948 to Rudolph and Willie Edna Knight in Bastrop, Louisiana. He lived briefly in Beekman, Louisiana, though he spent most of his time in Bastrop and graduated from BHS in 1966. He met his wife, Katie, while in high school.
He briefly attended Northeast, Louisiana State College before moving to Houston where he began work as a brick mason apprentice. He and Katie married in 1969 and together raised their five children. He took great pride in knowing all of his children are college graduates and have successful careers.
In 1985, at the age of 38, he began his own company, D & H Masonry, Inc. His business in Houston earned the reputation as a company of excellence based on honesty and integrity. It continues to thrive under the ownership of his sons, Ryan and Morgan. Nothing made David happier than time spent at his house on Houston County Lake. He was able to hunt and fish and to hear him tell it, he could outfish anyone! He enjoyed mowing the property with his beloved dog, Cooper, riding along. He put that mower to the test running over everything in his way! Anyone who visited him at the lake enjoyed listening to his great music and having entertaining conversation around the outdoor firepit and of course roasting marshmallows with the grandkids.
After retiring, David and Katie traveled abroad and in the states. The place most often visited was Branson, Missouri where they mainly went to hear the music. Those who know David are aware of his passionate love of music. Some of the many concerts which brought him happiness were Herman’s Hermits, George Strait, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and it’s true, Andrea Bocelli. Their travels would also take them to Tiger Stadium as often as possible. The highlight of those trips was attending the 2019 Championship game and witnessing LSU’s victory. Geaux Tigers!
David loved the Lord and guided his family in believing that Jesus is our savior. During his life he inspired and encouraged many people with his Christian beliefs. He passed peacefully knowing that Jesus was in his heart.
