Charles Parker Elliston, 41, passed away the evening of December 18, 2015 of natural causes. Charles Elliston was born on August 31, 1974 in Silver Spring, Maryland and was the youngest son of Diane and Ronald Elliston. He was named after jazz great Charlie “Yardbird” Parker. At a young age, Charles displayed a love and talent for music, like many generations of his family before him.
The music that surrounded his life inspired him to teach himself to play guitar. He created a heavy metal band while he was at John Tyler High School and, upon graduation, he enrolled in Tyler Junior College and joined the Classical Guitar Ensemble under the instruction of Frank Kimlicko. Mr. Kimlicko, a huge influence in his life, inspired him to become a teacher.
Charles continued his education at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelors in Music Education and a Minor in English Literature. His first teaching position was as a music teacher within Houston ISD. After a few years as a band director at Jane Long Middle School, his desire to teach his love of English Literature resulted in a position at Sam Houston High School, where he compiled his gifts to teach both band and literature. In 2008, Charles became a full time English Literature teacher at MacArthur Ninth Grade Campus with Aldine ISD. Charles had a passion for teaching his students to love, or at least respect, the written word. His successes in teaching his students led to him receiving a grant from Fund for Teachers in 2011. This enabled him to spend 10 days in England following in the footsteps of Shakespeare. Charles loved bringing the 400-year-old plays to life within the minds of his students.
Charles is remembered not just for his teaching ability, but also his kindness, big heart, cunning wit and ability to relate everything to Star Wars or DC Comics.
In 2002, Charles was Baptized and Confirmed as a Catholic; and his daughter is currently working towards her First Communion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Diane and Ronald Elliston, his half-brother Michael Elliston, and his step-mother Ronnie Wells-Elliston.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, Jennifer and Jenna Elliston of Spring, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Tiffany Elliston and their daughter Emily of Chapin, South Carolina; his brother and sister-in-law Timo and Amy Elliston and their children Aaron and Julia of Brooklyn, New York; his sister-in-law Gisella Elliston and daughter Angela of San Juan, Puerto Rico; his step-brother and sister-in-law Sean and Maia Wells. Charles will be greatly missed by the countless friends, extended family members, colleagues, and students.
