Barry Gordon Klein passed away the morning of October 3rd, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. He spent his final days surrounded by countless loved ones.
Barry was born in Harbor City, California. His family later moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he attended Punahou School. After moving back to California, he graduated highschool from Miraleste High School in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Barry went on to run track at Boston University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Management. From there, he attended law school at Baylor University, where he would meet his wife, Erika Klein. They were introduced as a coincidence, as Erika’s roommate was dating Barry’s roommate. They began dating and were married on November 12th, 1994. They moved to Beaumont for Barry’s job, then spent a few years in Houston. Upon the birth of their first child in 2001, they moved to The Woodlands and had made it their home ever since.
In The Woodlands, Barry worked for Global Shop Solutions from 2000 until his passing in 2024. He became their Chief Financial Officer, and he was a vital piece to the company and respected by all who worked alongside him.
Barry’s heart was filled with love for his wife and four children. As a husband, Barry was devoted and caring. Motivated by their shared faith, Barry and Erika built numerous churches across Africa. After Erika passed in 2022, he spent his time honoring her legacy. He helped create a program for women to learn to code in Ethiopia and a fund at MD Anderson to provide access to care for women with breast cancer. He also hosted meal packing events for children in Zambia, all in Erika’s memory. As a father, Barry was rich with love, coaching his children's sports teams and taking them on adventures.
One adventure in particular led Barry to find a passion for the children of Zambia. He took his daughter on a mission trip to Zambia, where he witnessed the hardships faced by the youth of the country. This led him to pour his heart into finding ways to help those in need. The next year, Barry took his entire family to Zambia, and together they worked to find sponsors for dozens of children to go to school. He was lovingly known to the Zambians as “Uncle Barry”.
Barry is survived by his four children, Barry “Cooper” Klein, Anna Klein, Thomas “Tommy” Klein and Hiyab Klein. He is also survived by his mother, Suzanne Klein, and his three siblings, Robert Klein, Kenneth “Scott” Klein and Amanda Overton.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday October, 16th at The Woodlands Methodist Church (Harvest Venue), 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380.
