Virginia Beatrice Wade

Virginia Beatrice Pelfrey Wade was born on March 26, 1934, in Olive Hill Kentucky. Her proud parents were Paul and Lacy Newland Pelfrey. The Pelfrey family grew to six, with brothers, James E. Pelfrey, Paul Pelfrey Jr., and Daniel Patton Pelfrey.

She lived in Kentucky and traveled with her family to many union meetings, as her father was a union organizer for the United Brick and Clay Workers Union. The Pelfrey family moved often, living in Texarkana for her junior high school years. During this time, Virginia met her future husband, Decker Wade, and they were later married after his time in the Marine Corp. Together they had three children, Debbie Patricia Wade, Byron Decker Wade, and Jan Denise Wade Tefteller.

Virgina worked with her husband Decker to build Wade, Wade & Associates Insurance Agency. She later worked as a secretary at Cooper Tire, and was a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant for many years. She joined Beech Street First Baptist Church, and became the director of the Mother’s Day Out Program. In this capacity she influenced many young lives, which led to her most recent career as a caregiver of young children. She became Mamaw to many children in the Texarkana area. Many of them loved and remembered her into adulthood, and she cherished the part she played in their formative years.

Virginia was later Mamaw to four grandchildren, Byron Decker Wade Jr., Jinny Katherine Allen Soper (her namesake), Rachel Madison Tefteller Hatch, and Troy Matthew Tefteller. By age 90, she was Mamaw to eight great grandchildren, Byron Garrett Wade, Landon and Presten Wade, Evan Soper, and Georgia, Wesley, Wade, and Hazel Hatch.

Virginia spent 90 years on this earth. She was a faithful Christian who brought joy and love to all who knew her.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at East Funeral Home-Downtown.

Visitation will be 10 to 11:00 am Wednesday prior to funeral at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Rondo Memorial Cemetery under direction of East Funeral Home.
