Robert (Bob) Harris, age 72 of Nacogdoches, TX, was born on January 8, 1947, and passed away on November 20, 2019. Bob grew up in Texarkana, AR where he attended Texarkana High School and was president of the student body. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he spent many hours meeting with his Boy Scout troop.
Bob loved scouting and earned the following awards: Eagle Scout, God and Country, and Order of the Arrow. As an adult, he volunteered his time to leading scout troops and serving at the Boy Scout camp he loved, Camp Pioneer, in Hatfield, AR. Bob and his Father worked within the Old Timers Scouting Association as he grew older. Bob’s son, Robert, followed as a third-generation scout to help build the outdoor chapel that stands at Camp Pioneer today. They hand-scrapped each log with dedication and determination. They were also instrumental in supplying articles for the Camp Pioneer Historical Building. Anyone who knew Bob knew he was a Boy Scout forever.
While attending Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR, Bob served on the student council, and lettered while on the swim team. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration. The majority of Bob’s career was spent in business administration for junior colleges or manufacturing in Texas. He was also a member of the Lions Club and involved with various community services. Bob volunteered at his church wherever he lived. He was recognized by Outstanding Young Men of America for his participation in civic and community work.
Beyond scouting, civic organizations, church and work, he loved his children and spent many, many hours coaching them and playing sports with them. Both children became very athletic. Leslie played college volleyball while Robert made his mark in basketball and finance. Bob was very proud of his children and who they had become.
Bob is survived by his children: Leslie Slovak of Dallas, TX. and her husband Dr. John Paul Slovak, and their children, Annika and Cade; Robert E.
