Michael Leo "Mike" McAdams, age 72, of Texarkana, TX went to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 5. He died peacefully at Christus St. Michael Hospital after a courageous battle with diabetes and heart disease.
Born in Shreveport, LA, Mike moved to Texarkana at a young age and spent most of his lifetime in Texarkana. He was a graduate of Texas High School and Texas A&M, College Station. His career in the insurance business spanned more than 30 years. He attended Beech Street First Baptist Church and previously was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in his youth.
After he graduated from college, Mike's patriotism was exemplified by his service in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. A highlight of his service was duty aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal aircraft carrier.
Through the years, Mike enjoyed golfing and fishing with family and friends and was an avid Texas Aggie. A compassionate and loving husband and father, Mike will alway have first place in the hearts of his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Kay Youngblood McAdams; two sons Scott and wife, Andrea McAdams, and Leo Kevin McAdams; one daughter, Susan McAdams; and three grandchildren - Kaylee, Chris and Matt McAdams. Other survivors are one sister, Patty Kennemur and husband, Dale, of Plano; mother-in-law, Hazel Youngblood of Texarkana; brother-in-law, Wayne Youngblood and wife, Doris, of Texarkana; and sisters-in-law, Shelba Jean Purifoy-Fricks of Wake Village, Jo Youngblood of Dallas, and Brenda Youngblood of Wake Village; nieces Christa Kennemur, Peggy Flink, Pam Goldman, Elizabeth Alexander and Tracie Vaughn; nephews Michael Kennemur, Chris Purifoy, Terry, Scott, Shane, Mark and Matt Youngblood; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. L. and Mary Jane McAdams; father-in-law, Wilburn Youngblood; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Leon Purifoy, Larry Youngblood and Louis Fricks.
A memorial service and celebration of the life of Mike will be held at East Memorial Chapel - Moores Lane at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 with the Reverend Craig Jenkins officiating. Visitation with family will follow the service.
The family will be at the home of Shelba Jean Purifoy-Fricks, 407 Loma Linda, Wake Village, TX.
