Hazel Jeffus Wilson Furlow was born on November 8, 1920 in Camden, Arkansas and passed away July 13, 2010 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness. She was born to parents, Daniel Myron Jeffus and Mary Edith Pace Jeffus and was the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Myron Jeffus, Jr. as well as her sister, Wanda Jeffus.
She is survived by her brother, Edison Dale Jeffus and his wife Audrey from Tulsa, Oklahoma, her sister, Nita Talbert and her husband, Joe, of Stroud, Oklahoma, her three daughters, Kathy Nichols of Duncanville, Texas, Louise Griffitt and her husband, Glenn, of Leonard, Texas, and Georgilee Alford of Arlington, Texas. She was also the beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren. These include Ms. Allison Nichols, Nathan Nichols, Esq., John Griffitt, Wes Griffitt, Dr. Brian Alford, Dr. Jeff Alford, and Tim Alford, Esq.
She is also survived by step-daughter Bonnie Culbreath and her husband Dale, of Odgen, Arkansas, step-grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. David Madden and Ms. Sharon Culstead. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Hazel attended public school in Texarkana, Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas in June of 1942.
In November of 1946 she married Walter George Wilson who preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Nathan Furlow, Jr. in September of 1977 who preceded her in death in July of 2007.
Hazel was baptized into the fellowship of Fairview Methodist Church on September 11, 1932 and was later a member of Hooks United Methodist Church and Ogden United Methodist Church. Hazel was known to her family and many friends as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, and a loving wife, mother, and friend.
Visitation is scheduled at East Funeral Home on Moore’s Lane in Texarkana this Thursday, July 15, 2010 from six until eight p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Fairview United Methodist Church in Texarkana on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 1:00 p. m. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
