Obituary of Shirley Ann Laughrey
Shirley Ann Laughrey, 89, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 9:27 p.m. Born on October 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Emma Smith and Chet Lockman. Shirley is now reunited with her beloved husband of 58 years, Ted Laughrey, and her son Gregg Laughrey I, as well as her sister, Jeanne Andrews. Shirley was known for her gentle spirit, Kindness and dedication to her faith. She spent many years serving others and lived a life filled with compassion and love. Shirley was employed at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where she found both purpose and friendship among her coworkers, whom she considered family. Additionally, she took great pride in driving a bus for the Indianapolis Colts’ Training Camp, as well as, for the Vigo County School Corporation, where she fondly referred to the children on her route as “her kids.” In her earlier years, Shirley raised two sons and contributed to the family business, Laughrey and Sons Roofing. She and her husband Ted were avid square dancers with Ted often calling the dances while Shirley gracefully twisted on the floor. Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family, whom she cherished deeply. She is survived by her son Teddy Laughrey; her sisters, Karla Card, (Larry), and Marie McCammon, (Kerry); her grandson, Gregg Laughrey II; granddaughters, Lorraine Cunningham, (John), Lindsay Daley, (Mike), Amanda Vermillion, (Anthony), Audrey Laughrey and Amber Laughrey; as well as, several great-grandchildren who were her prided and joy. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and family devotion will forever be remembered.
