James Richard Hale

James Richard Hale, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the Gibson Family Hospice Center in Union Hospital, surrounded by family. He was born on November 18, 1935, in Terre Haute to Thomas Leo and Eva (Smith) Hale.
James is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Erika (Davis) Hale; daughter, Jana Hoopingarner and husband Bill of Terre Haute; son, Greg Hale and wife Lisa of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Ashlee Bartow of Ft. Myers, FL, Aaron Hale of San Angelo, TX, Brandon Hale of San Diego, CA, and Chelsea Hale of San Diego, CA; great-grandson, Ayden James Hale of El Paso, TX; brother, Thomas Hale and wife Loretta of Cape Coral, FL; sister, Carol Kruzan of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wanda (Jessie) Hale; and a stillborn son, Richard James Hale.
James was a graduate of Gerstmeyer Technical High School. He served in the United States Air Force. A dedicated maintenance mechanic for Public Service, James retired after over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the German Oberlandler Club and a member of the Moose Club. James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
An avid Indiana University fan, James loved to watch basketball. He also enjoyed relaxing on his front porch and watching the birds. Most of all, James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will forever be remembered as a true family man. His final words expressed his love and gratitude for the two great women he had married during his lifetime, the pride that he had in his children, the love and joy he gave and received from his grandchildren, and how much his family meant to him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation and services for James will be private. He will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Union Hospital Foundation. Roselawn Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
