James William Burgess

He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School class of 1967, and was a graduate of Indiana State University.

Jim retired from MasterBrand Cabinets in Goshen, and had been employed at Chesty Foods, Pacific Ocean Clothing, Stran Steel and several other factories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Dawn Higginbotham; a brother, Chuck Burgess; a brother-in-law, Carl Whitlock; and a sister-in-law, Lynn Burgess.

Surviving are his siblings, John Burgess and wife Sylvia, Mary Whitlock, Judi McGaughy and husband Dan, Frank Burgess, and Rocky Burgess; several nieces and nephews; his special friends, Reba Perkins, and Alan Quezada; and his best friend, his cat Mercy.

Jim was the former President of the Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club; a lifetime member of the United States Judo Federation and was a member of the United States Olympic Judo Team in Japan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 12-4 PM at the Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club, 1616 Lafayette Avenue, with a service at 2:30 PM.

In honor of Jim, please wear Notre Dame, ISU, Indianapolis Colts or the color blue to his celebration of life.

Food and flower donations will be received at the German Oberlandler Club on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 10 AM.
