Jack Lloyd Summers, 95, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Springhill Village. He was born on February 28, 1920, in West Terre Haute, to the late Lloyd E. and Bessie W. (Ingram) Summers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mable Summers.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Judy Summers, and a son, Jim Summers and his wife Peggy, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Alison Dykes and her husband Kevin of Plainfield and Joe Summers and his wife Crystal of Byesville, OH; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Cameron Summers of Byesville, OH and Alex and Audrey Dykes of Plainfield; a brother Alan Keith Summers and friend Martin Portnoy of Sarasota, FL; sisters-in law Gertrude Cuffle and Betty Cuffle, both of Terre Haute; a step-daughter, Jean Higginbotham; step-grandsons, Curt Keller and his wife Penny, Brad Keller, and Michael Keller; and step-great-grandchildren, Harley and Derrick Keller.
Jack graduated from Glenn High School. He worked and retired from the Pennsylvania/Penn Central Railroad. He began his career as a fireman on a steam engine and retired as an engineer on a diesel engine. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Retired Railroaders.
Visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Summers officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
