Darrell Elbert Pruitt, Sr., 80, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
He was born on April 2, 1936 in Terre Haute to Elbert and Evelyn Pruitt.
As a young kid, Darrell started his working career as a painter. He spent over 40 years with Hulman and Company, where he was a carpenter and painter. Each year Darrell assisted in touching up the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for the racing season.
An accomplished vocalist and guitarist, he was in the Terre Haute Music Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darren Pruitt; and four siblings, Eileen Collings, Marion Pruitt, Richard Pruitt and Danny Pruitt.
Surviving are his wife, Judie; children, Darrell (Cheryl) Pruitt, Jr., Misty Cochran, Darla (Kevin) Summerlot and Brandon Pruitt; six siblings, Roxy Zigler, Dixie Price, Jack Pruitt, Jerry Pruitt, Ron Pruitt, and Steve Pruitt; grandchildren, Darrell Pruitt, III, Dusty (Hannah) Pruitt, Michael Davis, Tabitha Cochran, Amy Summerlot, Kevin Summerlot Jr., and Darrell Summerlot; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 1 P.M. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until time of services at the funeral home.
