Steve Cook

Services for Winfred Earl “Steve” Cook, age 91 of Temple, will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Koinm officiating. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery near Gatesville.

Mr. Cook was born on January 15, 1932 in Coryell County, Texas to the late Jess Cook and Ruby Blankenship Cook. He attended school in Flat and Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School. He entered the US Navy in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Steve married Martha Cole in Temple, Texas in 1994. He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for over 25 years in refrigeration repair. He was an avid bowler and antique car enthusiast. He was a member of the American Legion and Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Cook of Temple; step-son, Scott Cole and wife Marie of Converse; step-daughter, Martha Jo Black and husband Robert of Rockwall; four grandchildren, Clinton C. Black and wife Kristen of McGregor, Sarah Miller and husband Tim of Rockwall, Renee Baran and husband Jacob of Temple and Emma Cole of Dallas; five great grandchildren, Sam Black, Reed Black, Riley Black, Zach Miller and Zoe Miller.

The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00pm prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
