Frances Irene Walker, age 95, of Buckholts, Texas passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at a local hospital. She was born the daughter of William Derwood and Willie (Cryer) Bales on January 15, 1929 in Temple, Texas.
A visitation will take place on Friday, January 10th, 2025 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home 3110 Airport Rd. Temple, Texas 76504.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Rogers Church of Christ, S. Milam Rogers, Texas 76567. Family burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Davilla, Texas.
Frances married her high school sweetheart, Clifford M. Walker, Jr., and became a Navy wife and was a devoted to Clifford in marriage for over 60 years. After her husband retired from the Navy, she started a career working for the Temple VA Hospital and continued working for 20 years. Frances was a long-time member of the Rogers Church of Christ, and was an avid quilter. Having been a Navy wife, she moved around frequently during her husband's career, but their family roots and home was always in the Friendship Community. She lived in the house that her husband and father built until her death, always having a view over the Hill Country. She was the mother of 3 (two daughters and one son) and the matriarch to 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Clifford M. Walker, Jr. (January 15, 2005), her parents William and Willie Bales, and a brother Larry Dean Bales.
Frances is survived by her children, Mark Walker, DVM and husband Alex Nguyen of Fairfax, VA, Eileen Scheffler of Denton, TX, and Deborah Berry and husband Ryan of Robinson, TX, 5 grandchildren, Steven Scheffler and wife Lisa, David Scheffler and wife Michelle, Clint McPhee and wife Sandy, Kelly McPhee, and Ryan McPhee and wife Jessie, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandson.
In lieu of flowers, those in attendance or whom cannot attend are encouraged to make donations to the FSHD (facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy) Society (fshdsociety.org), the Autism Speaks Society (autismspeaks.org) for those that suffer with Asperger’s Syndrome (“Aspergers”) or a charity of your choice.
