Dr. Adrian W. Coleman, age 87 of Temple, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at a local care center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating. Private family entombment will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5-7:00pm, Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the funeral home. Adrian Wayne Coleman was born on December 15, 1928 in Olney, Texas to the late Harry S. Coleman and Katie Newby Coleman. On August 15, 1948, Adrian married the former Norma Tinsley in Abbott, Texas. He attended school in Olney and graduated from Olney High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University, Bachelor and Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his honorary Doctor of Divinity from the University of Corpus Christi. Dr. Coleman was a retired Baptist minister and college administrator. He was a student pastor in Webberville Road Baptist Church in Austin and Marlow Baptist Church in Cameron; a full-time pastor at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Austin, Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood, Blodgett St. Baptist Church in Carlsbad, New Mexico, First Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas and First Baptist Church in Lampasas as well as associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. He served as Southern Baptist Missionary to Liberia from 1961 thru 1965. Dr. Coleman was assistant VP of Development at Hardin-Simmons University, VP of Advancement at Mary Hardin-Baylor, Dir of Capital Giving at U.T. Pan American and Howard Payne University. Dr. Coleman has lived in Temple since 1974 and was a member of the Taylors Valley Baptist Church of Temple and served in many capacities in associations and state conventions including association clerk and moderator, state executive board and chairman of Christian education coordinating board of the Baptist General Convention; and trustee of the Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock, the Baptist Geriatric Center in San Angelo and at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He operated Coleman Tours & Travel, Inc. from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. Dr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Don Coleman and Ray Coleman. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Norma Coleman of Temple; a son, Dana Coleman and wife Susan of Temple; a daughter, Kathie Schumpert of Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Erin Schumpert and Collin Schumpert, both of Columbia, South Carolina; Katie Coleman Otwell and husband Matt of Temple and Tyler Coleman of Temple; five nieces and one nephew.
