Carol Dorsey Doughty left this mortal earth to play the organ and sing with the heavenly choir on September 15th, 2017. Carol, who insisted on being called Grandma or Mom to most, began her life on February 24th, 1944 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Van Bill and Wanda Batterton Dorsey. The oldest of three siblings Carol shared a strong bond with younger sister Brenda Dorsey Hopson and her baby brother Van Paul Dorsey. A beauty Queen and Majorette in High School, she began her altruistic work by volunteering for hurricane relief and the Red Cross. Carol inherited talents in the arts from her mother. These creative influences identified her life through music and painting. She married the love of her life Gary Marvin Doughty on November 27th, 1970. Combining families, she affectionately referred to as yours, mine and ours, to form her perfect world. A devotion to family, church, and children fueled every aspect of her life. These primary loves were reflected throughout a career of administration, arts and retail with many years spent working for the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls of America. She also dedicated many years to the Order of the Eastern Star. Carol shared her love for life while raising her children and opening her home to many others who needed her. Later in her life, a deep seated love for travel and camping paired with her commitment to faith sent her on church missions throughout the United States and Mexico. This passion took her and Gary back on the road where she made many friends and touched numerous lives. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Van and Wanda Dorsey and brother Van Paul Dorsey. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Gary Marvin Doughty; her sister, Brenda Dorsey Hopson; her children, Jeanese Owens Ranly, Michael W. Doughty, Cindy Doughty Joyner, Gary Christopher Doughty and Paul Craig Doughty; her grandchildren, Colton Lee Ranly, Jared Paul Ranly, Rogan Heath Ranly, Rebecca Baker Dutcher, Jennifer Howlett Cavazos and Megan Doughty Vatole; and her great-grandchildren, Michael Garrett Cavazos, Jillian Reese Cavazos, Markus Ryan Dutcher, Kelsey Leigh Ranly, and Amelia Loghan Vatole.
