Carl Maxwell, 94, died in Grapevine, Texas on November 23, 2016. He was born May 7, 1922 to William Cody and Addie Lee (Woodall) Maxwell in Hamlin, Jones Co., Texas. Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen LaDean Guthrie of Texas, and nine brothers and sisters. Mr. Maxwell graduated from Anson High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1941, serving in the Pacific War at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and during the Korean Conflict. He retired from active naval service in 1963 as a senior chief radioman. He also studied business at McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. From 1963 to 1979 he worked as a supervisor at Southern California Edison. After retiring from Edison he and his wife established and ran a medical billing service for several years. They moved back to Texas in 1998. Mr. Maxwell loved playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include son Carl Maxwell and wife Nancy of Grapevine, Texas; step-daughter Nelda Kathleen Martin of Laguna Niguel, California; granddaughters Sara Maxwell of Salt Lake City, Utah and Allison Monrad of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson Christopher Maxwell of Fort Worth; and great-granddaughter Olivia Grace Monrad. A graveside service with military honor guard will be held at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple, Texas on Tuesday, November 28, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. under the direction of Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
