Billy E. Embry was born in Belfalls, TX on August 25, 1921 to John Richard and America Elizabeth (Wilkinson) Embry. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1939. Billy married the love of his life, Iris Florence Schaub on August 26, 1942 in San Antonio. They had 63 wonderful years together and now he is with her again. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and loved to tell stories about being on a little island in the South Pacific called Beack. Always adding that in six months at the age of 21 he rose in rank from PFC to Sergeant to Staff Sergeant to Tech Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, he served in the Civil Service from 1946 to 1972 taking early retirement at the age of 50, having reached a rank of GS 14 step 9. He was extremely proud to have authored the world wide procedures manual for commissionary procurement.
Once retired he and Iris traveled all over the country in their airstream. They would often refer to it as the best years of their life.
Billy was a life member of the VFW and DAV as well as being a Master Mason for 65 years.
On Sunday, June 10, 2012, he was welcomed to his heavenly home by his loving wife; son, William Arthur Embry; parents; and all of his brothers and a sister. He would often ask how old was he – when told, he would smile and say, “I’m a long liver!”
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; Linda and Roger McDougal of Moody; two grandsons, William Brian Embry of Academy and Matthew James Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; two granddaughters, Stephanie Embry and Megan Partin, both of Virginia Beach, VA; and six great grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Avery, Billy, Joshua and Elizabeth.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
Funeral services be 10:00 am Friday, June 15, 2012 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Bellwood Cemetery.
