Bill J. "Big Bill" Walling

Bill James (Big Bill) Walling of Temple passed away peacefully on August 28, 2014 at the age of 96. Graveside services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Copeland officiating. Mr. Walling was born on January 3, 1918. He married the love of his life, Sue Duncan (Susie Girl), on November 20, 1941. Big Bill and Susie Girl were married for 65 years before Susie Girl preceded him in death in 2007. Bill worked for Griggs Equipment and School Specialty as a salesman covering the state of Texas for many years. Big Bill's favorite places to be were with his family at the lake or at the farm. His passions were outdoor projects, cars and trains. Bill was very involved in his community volunteering with the Salvation Army and Citizens on Patrol. He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Temple. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Sue and his son, Bill Jr. He is survived by his daughter Becky Phillips and husband Rusty of Bulverde, Texas; granddaughter Kristin Day and husband Eric of Boerne; grandson Kyle Phillips and wife Kimi of Jonesboro, great-grandchildren Morgan, Mallory and Carson Day, all of Boerne. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
