Dr. George Joseph Suarez went to be with The Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the age of 100. He was a long-time resident of Temple Terrace, Florida. He was born on April 19, 1920, in Havana, Cuba. George received his medical degree from the University of Havana and completed his residency at the French Hospital in New York City where he met the love of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp and was discharged in 1955.
George opened his medical practice in 1956 and was the first physician in Temple Terrace. He was compassionate, caring, and kind-hearted to all who needed care. Over the years he served as plant physician at Anheuser Busch and Schlitz breweries, Thatcher Glass and Reynolds Aluminum. He enjoyed coaching his children at Temple Terrace Little League and was the inaugural coach of the “Temples”, was involved in the Jesuit High School Dad’s club, and was the team physician for both Tampa Catholic and Jesuit High Schools. He liked traveling, dancing, and music. George was married to the love of his life, Frances, for 72 years, is preceded in death by his mother, Maria, and sisters, Herminia and Alicia. He is survived by his wife, Frances, and their 8 children George Jr. (Patti), Steven (Cherie), Mary Elizabeth Scott (Crawford), Jimmy, Michael (Andrea), Frances Alu (Jim), Kenny (Becky), John (Danette) and sister, Caridad Grine, 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends between 10-11 am on Thursday, July 23, 2020 with a mass to follow at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace, FL 33617. Private interment will follow.
Pallbearers include his sons; George Jr., Steven, James, Michael, Ken, and John.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gulfside Healthcare Services Inc., 4414 W. Cleveland St., Tampa, FL 33609 in memory of George Suarez.
