April 4, 1963 - July 19, 2024
Trave Mark Essary was born in Kermit, Texas,
April 4, 1963, and peacefully left our world July 19,
2024, while surrounded by family and love.
He graduated from high school in Jal, New
Mexico, the class of 1981. Trave served his country
in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise aircraft
carrier based in Alameda, CA.
He moved to Columbus, OH and resumed his
education as a Political Science major at Franklin
University. During this time, Trave achieved his
Certified Paralegal Accreditation from the American Institute of Paralegal Studies
in Columbus. He worked for the law offices of Pedan, Paley and Associates,
LLP, in Columbus and participated in numerous political campaigns. He was
appointed to the Ohio Elections Board for Franklin County in 2002 and rose to
an administrative position in the preparation and security of ballots, voting
equipment and precinct accountability.
Leaving Columbus to be closer to his family, he entered McLennan
Community College, earned a professional truck driving certificate and hit the
road. He later started his own construction business and put his life-long gift for
building things to work. With a proficiency for making things grow, he built and
tended gardens for friends and family.
Trave went to work for the City of Taylor and was close to celebrating
three years of service in the Building Maintenance Department. He loved his
work and he loved and respected his coworkers and city staff. A special
thanks to those city employees who offered PTO hours to support him in
his battle to recover.
Trave loved art, music, politics and football. As an avid Cowboys fan, he
wore his Troy Aikman #8 jersey for every game. He enjoyed landscaping,
gardening, building most anything and was passionate about being surrounded
by nature. He will rest peacefully in an East Texas family plot not far from the
Neches River.
Trave is survived by his mother, Nancci Phillips-Burgess, his step father,
Joe Burgess, brothers Troy and Trent Essary, their families and a host of cousins,
nephews and friends. He will join his grand parents, Jack and Pauline Phillips,
his father, Curby L. Essary and several special aunts and uncles who defined his
life and character over the years.
A viewing will be held Monday, July 29 5:00-7:00 at Condra Funeral Home
in downtown Taylor for all to celebrate Trave’s life, wit and open heart.
In place of flowers, please direct donations to the Taylor Animal Shelter.
