Marcella was born on April 24, 1937 in Laredo to Hattie A. (Krueger) and Richard R Schoener. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1955 and went to work at Montgomery Ward in 1956. In 1973 she became the first woman Store Controller for the company in the United States. She retired in 1984 and went to college. She received her AA degree from Victoria College in 1986, and her BS from the University of Texas-Austin in 1989. The next 11 years she taught middle school English in Lexington and retired again in May 2001.
Marcella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in the Sandoval community, Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Williamson County Retired Teachers and Taylor Conservation and Historical Society. She loved reading, family genealogy (Krueger, Mueller, Schoener and Galler) and yard work.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Allen Schoener, sisters Virginia Prince and Anna Garcia, sister-in-law Irene Schoener, brothers-in-law Leonard Humes and Donald Prince, nieces April Waite and Laura Humes, nephew Don A Prince and great-nieces Ariel and Natalia Waite.
She is survived by brother Herman Schoener of Belleville, IL, sister Joyce Humes of San Antonio, sister-in-law Kiyoko Schoener, brother-in-law Rene Garcia, Sr, nieces and nephews Hattie McGrew, Sharon Thornton, Lenny (Pat) Humes, Debra (Larry) Maldonado, Sandra (Kip) Wade, Kathy (Charlie) Calhoun, Howard Prince, Christy (Mohammed Khalil) Schoener, Richard H (Ying) Schoener, Robert (Amy) Schoener, Rene (Jason Stewart) Garcia, Jr and Aaron Garcia; great-nieces and nephews Kerry and David McGrew, Heather Lewis, Kyle Thornton, Jason (Shirley) Humes, Brandon Humes, Julia Braswell, Greg (Shana) Braswell, Kathy (EJ) Villarreal, Scott Torres, Justin (Jennifer) Torres, Lorenzo (Tara) Maldonado, Danielle Maldonado, Ryan Maldonado, Jean-Luc (Megan) Wade, Chloe Humes-Salinas, Natasha Wade, Remy Wade, Dakota Wade, Christopher Calhoun, Kristyn (Aaron) Ray, Yousef and Laith Khalil and Denali, Jackson and Lucas Schoener; great-great nieces and nephews Aundre and Ines Villegas, Ian, Caleb and Sadie Humes, Mackenzie Ard-Humes, Dylan Carter, Jacob and Jocelyn Irvin, Jorge and Stella Villarreal, Carter and Clayton Braswell, Jacob, Alyssa, Annabelle and Jemma Torres, Lorence and Lorelei Maldonado and Caroline and Noah Wade.
There will be a visitation from 6-8pm on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Condra Funeral Home, 502 Talbot, Taylor. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 30 at 10am at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in the Sandoval community on CR 424 off of FM 1063, five miles north of Thrall, with the Rev. Jon Biefeldt officiating. In light of the COVID pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Calhoun, Rene Garcia, Jr, Brandon Humes, Lenny Humes, Larry Maldonado and Kip Wade.
Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
