Jan was born to David and Mary Lou Payne in Fort Worth, Texas in 1939. She grew up in Fort Worth and met Ernest Rickel while at work. After declining numerous offers of romance, the two were eventually married on October 9, 1958 and had five children.
As an artist, Jan had a unique ability to see the beauty in everyone she met. She used this to inspire and empower those to become their best self. People were drawn to the love and acceptance she learned from the example of Jesus Christ. As a result, she often found more than her 5 children sheltered in her house. Jan loved to read, write poetry, fish, travel, paint, sculpt, decorate, and dance. She lived her life as a work of art that always had room for more people to love.
Jan is preceded in death by her mother Mary Lou, her father David, husband Ernest, and sister Deanna. She is survived by her loving children, Richard Rickel, Larry & Pam Rickel, Susan & Blaine Faykus, Navya Tadlock, and Mark Rickel, and nephew Rick Roberts. In addition to grandchildren, Josh, Trenton, Kelsey, Heather, Megan, Rachel, Brice, Amy, Stevie, and Garrett, she is also survived by many great grandchildren who all carry on the love that Jan has poured out into the family.
There will be a visitation from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 8th at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Funeral service will be at Condra Funeral Home at 10:00am on Thursday, September 9th.
