Edward Kubala

Edward Frank Kubala, 78, of Austin died Thursday, July 18, 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Taylor, Texas, the firstborn child of Edward Frank Kubala Sr. and Mary Victoria (Marek) Kubala on September 30, 1934.

Edward graduated as Valedictorian from St. Mary’s High School in Taylor, Texas. He graduated from St. Edwards University in Austin with a degree in Accounting. On November 4, 1954 he married Joyce Dean Pulkrabek. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his sister Jeannie Viney, his great-granddaughter Gabrielle Marie Soto, and both of his parents.

Ed spent his career working with the State Board of Insurance, first as an Insurance Examiner, then as the Supervisor and Conservator of Insurance Companies for the State of Texas. Upon retiring from the State of Texas, Edward continued in many successful entrepreneurial endeavors. Edward traveled throughout the United States as an employee of the State of Texas. His passion for travel expanded in retirement when he began traveling throughout the world with friends and family. His travels were enhanced when his loving companion, Linda Jennings, was by his side.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Johnson and husband Jerry; son, Steve Kubala and wife Patti, all of Austin. Grandchildren are Jessica Christensen and husband Shawn of Colorado; Janell Soto and husband Jaime of Pflugerville; Jenna Badilo and husband Robbie of Austin; and Jake Johnson of Austin. Great-grandchildren include Ethan Soto; Miles Badilo; and Kassidy, Chance, and Hunter Christensen.

Visitation will be Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers are: Shawn Christensen, Jaime Soto, Robbie Badilo, Jay Wilhite, Todd Wilhite, and David Jennings.
