Curtis was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on August 23, 1954 to Betty (Bellinghausen) and Linden Brown. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1972. Curtis was very active in FFA, serving as Chapter President and won several state and regional competitions. He studied Agronomy at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma before relocating to Austin, Texas in 1977.
He married his wife of 47 years, Louise Frysinger, on May 17, 1975. Curtis and Lou served as foster parents through Child Protective Services and opened their home to 53 foster children over a 12 year period.
He worked in several retail venues with a focus on inventory control for over 50 years. He was respected by management and his co-workers for his business knowledge, effective customer service techniques, as well as his unique wit and practical jokes. Curtis, who was raised in a farming family, enjoyed traveling with his father and brothers on combining trips during summers in his youth. Through his adulthood he was passionate about grilling Texas style BBQ, camping, fishing, gardening and was an avid reader. Curtis especially enjoyed watching
Sherlock Holmes, James Bond and historical event films. He was an active member of the Cursillo community and the Brotherhood of St Andrew through the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and was a very spiritual man.
Curtis is survived by his wife Lou, daughters Alicia and Courtney, grandchildren Megan, Anthony, Patrick and Dominic, his siblings Barbara, Bill, Joe, Wes, Chris and James and their respective families; as well as numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David and Edward. He will be sorely missed by both family and friends combined.
A come and go celebration of his life will be held on March 25, 2023, at the fellowship hall of St James Episcopal Church, 614 Davis Street, Taylor, Texas, between the hours of 1:30 pm and 5:30 pm. Dress will be casual.
