Wayne Clark Lopez, 78 passed peacefully in Tampa, Fl. on July 16th, 2022. Born in Auburn CA., He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Geneva Lopez. He was raised in Ridley Park, PA attended Ridley Park High School and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Tampa, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree.
While at the University of Tampa he decided to join the Tampa Police Department and soon after he enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War. Due to his investigative background he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. Returning to Tampa he married his college sweetheart Antoinette Oddo and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.
Pursuing his passion for Investigation, Wayne joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department. He often spoke about walking the beat in downtown Tampa, West Tampa, and Ybor City. After several years he was offered a position in the Arson Unit and became a certified Arson Investigator. He ended his career as a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Department.
Hunting, fishing and shooting were his hobbies. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139 Tampa, Fl., and served on the Executive Board for several years.
Survived by his loving wife Antoinette and many loving cousins and friends who have reached out in Sympathy and Love.

In honor of Wayne’s wishes there will not be any formal services in Tampa. At a later date his remains will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl.
