Rolando Antonio Martin, 84, of Tampa, FL, died at Oak Hill Hospital on January 24, 2024. He was born in Camagüey, Cuba in 1939 to Roberto (Tico) Faustino Martin and Maria Josefa Amodia Martin. Rolando served in the National Liberation Army in Cuba fighting in the battle of Escambray and ultimately was imprisoned for 10 years for political treason against the Castro regime before immigrating to America in 1972 and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1982.
Rolando was preceded in death by his brother Roberto Julian Martin, and his niece Ingrid Martin. He is survived by his wife, Margarita Martin, his daughter Susana Sanders (Craig Sanders), his grandchildren, Jordan Anthony Armstrong and Dylan James Armstrong, and his niece Rose Marie Martin (David Barron).
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Gonzalez Funeral Home at 7209 North Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, FL 33614. The visitation will be 6pm to 9pm and the funeral service will start at 7:30pm. Donations to Casa Cuba de Tampa would be greatly appreciated.
